Poodles come in three sizes, from a tiny Toy to a tall, athletic Standard, so there is no single best Poodle car seat. Small Poodles do best in a raised booster with high sides, while Standards need a big dog bed, a back seat extender or a waterproof hammock. Use the size guide below to find the right fit, then buy online with delivery across the UK.

Find Your Poodle's Size

Toy

Under 28cm tall

  • Small raised booster rated to 8 to 10kg
  • High sides so they cannot hop out
  • Soft lining for warmth after a clip

Miniature

28 to 38cm tall

  • Booster rated to 10 to 12kg
  • Room to curl up on longer drives
  • Short tether clipped to a harness

Standard

Over 38cm, about 20 to 32kg

  • Large car bed or back seat extender
  • Waterproof hammock or 3 in 1 cover
  • Boot liner behind a dog guard in estates

Heights follow the UK size split for Poodles, and the Standard weight comes from the breed overview. Always weigh and measure your own dog.

Curly Coat, Clean Car

A Poodle's thick, curly coat does not drop much loose hair on the seats, but it acts like a sponge for rain, mud and sand. Most Poodles also see the groomer every 4 to 8 weeks, which means a freshly clipped dog can feel the cold on winter drives. A few simple habits help:

Dry before you drive

Squeeze water out of the legs and topknot with a towel before your dog gets in.

Cover the seat

A waterproof hammock or seat cover stops damp curls soaking into the upholstery.

Add a blanket

After a short clip, a soft lining or blanket keeps small Poodles warm.

Long Legs Need Space

Standard Poodles are tall and leggy, so a booster that suits a 25kg Spaniel may still feel cramped. Look at the inside length and wall height as well as the weight limit. Many owners of Standards find a back seat extender works best, as it turns the footwell into a flat platform where a long dog can stretch out.

Keep it legal and safe. Highway Code Rule 57 asks drivers to keep dogs suitably restrained so they cannot distract you or be hurt if you stop quickly. Clip any seat tether to a padded car harness, never a collar. Our seats and covers are for comfort and containment and are not crash tested.

Poodle Car Seat Questions

What car seat is best for a Toy or Miniature Poodle?

A raised booster with high sides and a harness tether, rated a few kilos above your dog's weight. Most Toys and Miniatures suit a seat rated to 8 to 12kg.

Can a Standard Poodle use a dog car seat?

Most raised boosters are too small. Choose a large car bed rated well above your dog's weight, a back seat extender, or a waterproof hammock with a harness tether.

Do Poodles shed on car seats?

Very little loose hair falls out, but the curly coat holds water and mud. A waterproof cover is still worth having after wet walks.

Are these seats suitable for Poodle crosses?

Yes, as long as you buy by weight and size. See our Cockapoo and Cavapoo ranges for crosses with their own sizing guides.
