Dog Car Seat Cover & Hammock
Waterproof Dog Car Hammock with Mesh Window and Door Flaps
This is a quilted, waterproof back seat cover for dogs that clips between your front and rear headrests to form a protective hammock across the whole rear seat. It keeps mud, wet fur, drool and claws off your upholstery, stops your dog sliding into the footwell, and gives them a calm, contained space to travel in. The same cover also works flat as a standard dog car seat cover or laid in the boot as a cargo liner.
Built for muddy walks, beach days and everyday school runs.
A four-layer quilted construction does the hard work. The top surface is waterproof 600D Oxford cloth, backed by a soft polypropylene cotton padding layer, a polyester layer and a slip-proof PVC soft backing that grips the seat. The double-layer thickened build is designed to stand up to daily wear from paws and claws, while the backing keeps the cover from shifting on fabric or leather seats.
A breathable mesh viewing window lets your dog see you from the back, which helps anxious travellers settle, and keeps air moving through the cabin. Four storage pockets on the backrest hold treats, poo bags and a lead, and two side flaps cover the lower doors as your dog climbs in and out.
Key Features
Why dog owners choose it

- ✓ Side door protection flaps guard the lower door panels from scratches and mud.
- ✓ Slip-proof PVC backing and seat anchors tuck into the seat crease to keep the cover firmly in place.

- ✓ Dog seat belt tether included to clip to your dog's harness.
Three Ways to Use
One cover, every journey
Dog hammock: clip to front and rear headrests for full back seat and footwell coverage.
Dog car seat cover: unclip the front straps and use it as a flat back seat protector, leaving room for a passenger.
Boot cargo liner: lay it in the boot of an estate or SUV to protect the load area.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Will this dog car hammock fit my car?
It is a universal fit with a seat width of approx. 137 cm, suiting most family cars, estates, SUVs and trucks. If you drive a small hatchback, measure your back seat width before ordering.
Is it fully waterproof?
Yes. The top layer is waterproof 600D Oxford cloth, so wet coats, muddy paws, drool and spills stay on the cover rather than soaking into your seats.
Can I still use the seat belts?
Yes. Velcro-sealed openings give access to the seat belt buckles, so you can clip in the included dog seat belt tether or a passenger can buckle up.
Can a passenger sit in the back with my dog?
Yes. Unclip the front headrest straps to use it as a flat back seat cover, leaving space for a passenger to sit alongside your dog.
Will it slide around on leather seats?
The slip-proof PVC backing grips the seat, and the seat anchors tuck into the gap between the backrest and cushion to hold it in place on both leather and fabric seats.
How do I clean it?
Wipe it down, vacuum up hair and debris, rinse it off, or put it in the washing machine.
Questions from Dog Owners
Choosing the right car seat for your dog is about more than comfort — it's about keeping them, and you, safe on every journey. Every seat we sell is built to hold up properly if you brake suddenly, and is designed with UK travel laws in mind, so your dog stays secure without feeling restricted. Below are the questions our customers ask us most often, answered in plain terms.
Yes, provided the seat is fitted correctly and matches your dog's weight. A good car seat keeps your dog from being thrown forward in an emergency stop and stops them climbing into the footwell or onto your lap while you're driving. Look for one with a secure seatbelt strap and a sturdy internal harness clip, rather than just a soft bed with no restraint.
The Highway Code (Rule 57) states that dogs must be suitably restrained so they can't distract you while driving or injure you and themselves if you stop suddenly. It doesn't specify an exact product, but a car seat, harness or crate that keeps your dog in place is generally considered compliant. Driving with an unrestrained dog can also affect your car insurance if you're involved in an accident.
It's best avoided. Airbags are designed for adult passengers and can seriously injure a smaller animal if they deploy. Dogs are also more likely to distract the driver from the front seat. If a front seat is genuinely your only option, disable the airbag first and use a properly fitted harness or seat, but the back seat is safer whenever you can manage it.
Small dogs generally do best in a raised booster-style seat rather than a flat bed, as it lets them see out of the window, which many find calming, while still keeping them clipped in. Look for a seat with padded sides so they can't be jolted around, and a base wide enough that it doesn't tip when your dog shifts position.
Larger breeds are usually more comfortable in a full-width rear seat cover combined with a harness that clips to the seatbelt, rather than a raised booster. This gives them room to lie down on longer journeys while still being restrained. Check the weight rating carefully, as not every seat on the market is built to hold a dog over 25kg securely.
Start with your dog's weight and size, then think about how they travel — nervous dogs often prefer a raised, enclosed seat, while relaxed dogs may be happy with a flatter bed style. Check that the seat attaches to your existing seatbelt rather than relying on loose straps, and make sure it's machine washable, since muddy paws are inevitable.
Weigh your dog and measure them from nose to tail base while standing, then check this against the size chart on each product page rather than going by breed alone, as weight varies a lot within breeds. If your dog is between two sizes, it's usually better to size up slightly so they have room to settle rather than feeling boxed in.
They solve different problems. A hammock protects your seats and stops your dog falling into the footwell, but it doesn't usually restrain them on its own. A car seat clips into the seatbelt and keeps your dog in one place. Some owners use both together — a hammock for the seat protection and a harness clip for the restraint.
Most of our seats sit directly on the back seat and secure using your car's existing seatbelt threaded through the base straps, so no tools or fixings are needed. Once it's pulled tight and doesn't slide, clip your dog's harness to the internal safety tether. It typically takes a couple of minutes once you've done it the first time.
There's no single law naming "seatbelts for dogs" specifically, but the Highway Code requires dogs to be suitably restrained in a moving vehicle. A harness that clips to the seatbelt, a car seat with a built-in tether, or a secured crate all satisfy this. Leaving your dog completely loose in the car is what the law is aimed at preventing.
Our car seats are designed for standard car seatbelts, so they're not suitable for motorbikes. In a van, they'll work fine as long as the rear or front seats have a proper three-point seatbelt to thread the straps through — flat cargo areas without seatbelt points aren't a suitable fit.
Yes, our smaller seats work well for cats, particularly nervous travellers who feel safer raised up and able to see out. Just check the weight and size guide first, and keep in mind most cats settle better with the sides zipped up rather than left open, unlike most dogs.
For most healthy adult dogs, a few hours is perfectly fine, but it's worth stopping every couple of hours on longer trips so they can stretch, drink water and go to the toilet, the same as you would with a young child. Puppies and older dogs generally need shorter stretches and more frequent breaks.
Most covers unzip from the frame and can go straight into the washing machine on a cool, gentle cycle. Give the base a quick wipe with a damp cloth first to remove any loose mud or fur, and let the cover air dry fully before zipping it back on to avoid any musty smell.
Nervous dogs often do better in a seat with raised, padded sides, which feels more like a den than an open platform. Being able to see out of the window also helps some dogs settle, while others prefer a bit more enclosure. It's worth pairing the seat with a blanket or item that smells familiar for the first few trips.
Start with short trips of five to ten minutes so your puppy associates the car with something other than the vet. Let them explore the parked car and the seat first without the engine running, then build up gradually. Keeping the same seat for every journey helps them settle faster, since it starts to feel familiar rather than new each time.
