Centre Console Dog Car Seat – Elevated View, Detachable Carrier & Adjustable Straps

Product description

A raised console seat that lifts your dog or cat up to window height, giving them a clear view out of the car while keeping them close to you on every drive — ideal for nervous travellers who settle better when they can see what's happening around them.

This seat anchors to the console with adjustable elastic straps, not a harness clip — best suited to pets who settle and stay seated during the drive.

What makes it different

Wide, elevated view

Positioned on the centre console, this seat raises your pet closer to windshield height. Many pets show fewer signs of anxiety and motion sickness when they can see the road ahead rather than sitting low in a footwell.

Doubles as a travel bag

Away from the car, the same cushion folds into a soft carrier bag — handy for camping trips, visits to friends, or bringing your pet's own bed along wherever you go.

Soft, durable construction

Made from a linen and cotton-linen blend with an Arctic fleece lining and a PP cotton filling, the seat is breathable, holds its shape, and resists everyday wear from scratching and chewing.

Adjustable straps for a secure fit

Elastic straps at the base anchor the seat to the centre console, so it can be fitted in a couple of minutes without tools.

Fully removable, machine washable cover

A built-in zip lets the cover come away completely for a normal machine wash — practical for muddy paws and shedding fur.

Helping a nervous traveller settle

Dogs that struggle with car journeys often do better in a raised, supported position rather than sitting flat on the seat — being able to see out tends to reduce the disorientation that triggers motion sickness in many pets. Introducing the seat gradually with short trips before longer ones, and adding a familiar blanket or toy, can help build a more positive association with car travel over time.

Common questions

What size dogs is this seat suitable for?

This seat suits small dogs and cats that fit comfortably within its 45 x 22 x 25cm base. Compare your pet's usual bed size to these dimensions if you're unsure.

How does it attach to the car?

Elastic straps at the base loop around the centre console, giving a secure fit without any tools.

Can it really be used as a carrier away from the car?

Yes — the cushion detaches into a soft travel bag, useful for camping trips, day outings, or vet visits.

Is the cover washable?

Yes, the built-in zip lets you remove the cover fully and wash it in a normal machine cycle.

Will this help with my dog's car anxiety or motion sickness?

The elevated, open design lets pets see out of the window, which often helps reduce anxiety and motion sickness — though every dog is different, so introducing the seat gradually helps them adjust.

Questions from Dog Owners

Choosing the right car seat for your dog is about more than comfort — it's about keeping them, and you, safe on every journey. Every seat we sell is built to hold up properly if you brake suddenly, and is designed with UK travel laws in mind, so your dog stays secure without feeling restricted. Below are the questions our customers ask us most often, answered in plain terms.

Yes, provided the seat is fitted correctly and matches your dog's weight. A good car seat keeps your dog from being thrown forward in an emergency stop and stops them climbing into the footwell or onto your lap while you're driving. Look for one with a secure seatbelt strap and a sturdy internal harness clip, rather than just a soft bed with no restraint.

The Highway Code (Rule 57) states that dogs must be suitably restrained so they can't distract you while driving or injure you and themselves if you stop suddenly. It doesn't specify an exact product, but a car seat, harness or crate that keeps your dog in place is generally considered compliant. Driving with an unrestrained dog can also affect your car insurance if you're involved in an accident.

It's best avoided. Airbags are designed for adult passengers and can seriously injure a smaller animal if they deploy. Dogs are also more likely to distract the driver from the front seat. If a front seat is genuinely your only option, disable the airbag first and use a properly fitted harness or seat, but the back seat is safer whenever you can manage it.

Small dogs generally do best in a raised booster-style seat rather than a flat bed, as it lets them see out of the window, which many find calming, while still keeping them clipped in. Look for a seat with padded sides so they can't be jolted around, and a base wide enough that it doesn't tip when your dog shifts position.

Larger breeds are usually more comfortable in a full-width rear seat cover combined with a harness that clips to the seatbelt, rather than a raised booster. This gives them room to lie down on longer journeys while still being restrained. Check the weight rating carefully, as not every seat on the market is built to hold a dog over 25kg securely.

Start with your dog's weight and size, then think about how they travel — nervous dogs often prefer a raised, enclosed seat, while relaxed dogs may be happy with a flatter bed style. Check that the seat attaches to your existing seatbelt rather than relying on loose straps, and make sure it's machine washable, since muddy paws are inevitable.

Weigh your dog and measure them from nose to tail base while standing, then check this against the size chart on each product page rather than going by breed alone, as weight varies a lot within breeds. If your dog is between two sizes, it's usually better to size up slightly so they have room to settle rather than feeling boxed in.

They solve different problems. A hammock protects your seats and stops your dog falling into the footwell, but it doesn't usually restrain them on its own. A car seat clips into the seatbelt and keeps your dog in one place. Some owners use both together — a hammock for the seat protection and a harness clip for the restraint.

Most of our seats sit directly on the back seat and secure using your car's existing seatbelt threaded through the base straps, so no tools or fixings are needed. Once it's pulled tight and doesn't slide, clip your dog's harness to the internal safety tether. It typically takes a couple of minutes once you've done it the first time.

There's no single law naming "seatbelts for dogs" specifically, but the Highway Code requires dogs to be suitably restrained in a moving vehicle. A harness that clips to the seatbelt, a car seat with a built-in tether, or a secured crate all satisfy this. Leaving your dog completely loose in the car is what the law is aimed at preventing.

Our car seats are designed for standard car seatbelts, so they're not suitable for motorbikes. In a van, they'll work fine as long as the rear or front seats have a proper three-point seatbelt to thread the straps through — flat cargo areas without seatbelt points aren't a suitable fit.

Yes, our smaller seats work well for cats, particularly nervous travellers who feel safer raised up and able to see out. Just check the weight and size guide first, and keep in mind most cats settle better with the sides zipped up rather than left open, unlike most dogs.

For most healthy adult dogs, a few hours is perfectly fine, but it's worth stopping every couple of hours on longer trips so they can stretch, drink water and go to the toilet, the same as you would with a young child. Puppies and older dogs generally need shorter stretches and more frequent breaks.

Most covers unzip from the frame and can go straight into the washing machine on a cool, gentle cycle. Give the base a quick wipe with a damp cloth first to remove any loose mud or fur, and let the cover air dry fully before zipping it back on to avoid any musty smell.

Nervous dogs often do better in a seat with raised, padded sides, which feels more like a den than an open platform. Being able to see out of the window also helps some dogs settle, while others prefer a bit more enclosure. It's worth pairing the seat with a blanket or item that smells familiar for the first few trips.

Start with short trips of five to ten minutes so your puppy associates the car with something other than the vet. Let them explore the parked car and the seat first without the engine running, then build up gradually. Keeping the same seat for every journey helps them settle faster, since it starts to feel familiar rather than new each time.
