Car Travel Safety · Two-In-One Set

Dog Car Harness Seat Belt Set

A complete dog car harness and seat belt set that secures your dog on every journey. The breathable body-wrap harness pairs with an adjustable elasticated seat belt to keep your pet calmly in place — a safer, more comfortable way to travel than a loose collar or an unrestrained dog on the back seat.

What It Is

Everything you need to buckle up your dog, in one set

Travelling with an unrestrained dog is stressful for you and unsafe for them. This dog car safety harness set solves both problems in a single purchase. You receive a soft, padded mesh harness that wraps around your dog’s chest and shoulders, plus a matching elasticated tether that clicks straight into your car’s seat belt buckle. Together they hold your dog securely while still giving enough slack to sit, turn or lie down in comfort.

It works as a dedicated dog seat belt for the car and doubles as an everyday dog walking harness when clipped to a lead — so the same set covers the drive to the park and the walk once you arrive. Suitable for small to medium dogs, and roomy enough for cats too, it is designed for owners who want a restraint that is genuinely easy to fit and reassuringly secure.

Designed Around Your Dog

Built for comfort, made to hold

Breathable Mesh Vest

A double-layer mesh chest panel with soft flannelette-trimmed edges spreads pressure across the body, absorbs warmth and keeps your dog cool and comfortable on longer drives.

Four Load-Bearing Straps

Four durable polypropylene (PP) straps carry the harness load away from the throat, so restraint comes from the chest and shoulders rather than the neck.

Elasticated Seat Belt

The strong nylon seat belt tether has built-in give, taking the jolt out of sudden stops while limiting how far your dog can move inside the cabin.

Quick-Release & Adjustable

Four adjustable buckles dial in a snug, custom fit, and the quick-release fastening lets you secure or free your dog in seconds at either end of the journey.

Collar-Free Reassurance

The full body-wrap design is a kinder alternative to a collar, holding your dog without choking pressure and stopping them roaming into the footwell or front seat.

Boot & Back-Seat Ready

The tether attaches easily to a rear seat belt buckle or in the boot, giving you flexibility across hatchbacks, saloons, estates and SUVs.

Safety First

Why a restraint matters on every drive

An unrestrained dog can distract the driver, be thrown forward in a sudden stop, or bolt the moment a door opens. A properly fitted dog car restraint keeps your pet in one place, helps them feel settled, and keeps the cabin calm so you can focus on the road.

  • Holds your dog securely in position and prevents roaming between seats
  • Body-wrap design directs force across the chest, not the neck
  • Elasticated tether absorbs movement and reduces jolting
  • Stops your dog leaning out of open windows during the drive
  • Discourages bolting when doors and the boot are opened
  • Helps anxious travellers stay calmer and more comfortable
Finding The Fit

Choosing the right size

For the safest, most comfortable fit, measure your dog before you order. Take the chest (girth) measurement around the widest part of the ribcage just behind the front legs, and the neck measurement around the base of the neck. Choose the size that comfortably covers both — the harness should sit snug but never tight, with room to slide two fingers underneath the straps.

Size Best Suited To
XXX-Small Toy breeds, puppies and cats
XX-Small Very small breeds and slim small dogs
X-Small Small breeds
Small Small to lower-medium breeds
Medium Medium breeds
Large Upper-medium breeds

* If your dog falls between two sizes, choosing the larger size and adjusting the buckles inward usually gives the most comfortable fit.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is this a harness or a seat belt?

It is both. The set includes a padded body-wrap harness your dog wears, plus a separate elasticated seat belt tether that connects the harness to your car’s seat belt buckle. You use the two together to secure your dog for travel.

How do I know which size to choose?

Measure your dog’s chest girth behind the front legs and the base of the neck, then pick the size that comfortably fits both. The four adjustable buckles let you fine-tune the fit, and you should be able to slide two fingers under the straps once it is on.

Will it fit my car?

Yes. The tether clicks into a standard seat belt buckle and adjusts from roughly 53 cm to 74 cm, so it works across most hatchbacks, saloons, estates and SUVs. You can secure your dog on the back seat or in the boot.

Can my dog still sit and lie down while wearing it?

Yes. The seat belt is long enough to let your dog sit up, turn around or lie down comfortably, while still being short enough to stop them climbing into the front or moving around the cabin.

Is it suitable for cats as well as dogs?

It is. The smaller sizes are roomy and gentle enough to suit cats, making this a practical travel restraint for multi-pet households.

Can I use the harness for walking too?

Yes. When you reach your destination, clip a standard or retractable lead to the harness and use it as an everyday walking harness — so the one set covers both the journey and the walk.

Comfortable to wear, quick to fit and reassuringly secure — the Dog Car Harness Seat Belt Set is a simple way to make every drive safer for your dog and calmer for you.

Questions from Dog Owners

Choosing the right car seat for your dog is about more than comfort — it's about keeping them, and you, safe on every journey. Every seat we sell is built to hold up properly if you brake suddenly, and is designed with UK travel laws in mind, so your dog stays secure without feeling restricted. Below are the questions our customers ask us most often, answered in plain terms.

Yes, provided the seat is fitted correctly and matches your dog's weight. A good car seat keeps your dog from being thrown forward in an emergency stop and stops them climbing into the footwell or onto your lap while you're driving. Look for one with a secure seatbelt strap and a sturdy internal harness clip, rather than just a soft bed with no restraint.

The Highway Code (Rule 57) states that dogs must be suitably restrained so they can't distract you while driving or injure you and themselves if you stop suddenly. It doesn't specify an exact product, but a car seat, harness or crate that keeps your dog in place is generally considered compliant. Driving with an unrestrained dog can also affect your car insurance if you're involved in an accident.

It's best avoided. Airbags are designed for adult passengers and can seriously injure a smaller animal if they deploy. Dogs are also more likely to distract the driver from the front seat. If a front seat is genuinely your only option, disable the airbag first and use a properly fitted harness or seat, but the back seat is safer whenever you can manage it.

Small dogs generally do best in a raised booster-style seat rather than a flat bed, as it lets them see out of the window, which many find calming, while still keeping them clipped in. Look for a seat with padded sides so they can't be jolted around, and a base wide enough that it doesn't tip when your dog shifts position.

Larger breeds are usually more comfortable in a full-width rear seat cover combined with a harness that clips to the seatbelt, rather than a raised booster. This gives them room to lie down on longer journeys while still being restrained. Check the weight rating carefully, as not every seat on the market is built to hold a dog over 25kg securely.

Start with your dog's weight and size, then think about how they travel — nervous dogs often prefer a raised, enclosed seat, while relaxed dogs may be happy with a flatter bed style. Check that the seat attaches to your existing seatbelt rather than relying on loose straps, and make sure it's machine washable, since muddy paws are inevitable.

Weigh your dog and measure them from nose to tail base while standing, then check this against the size chart on each product page rather than going by breed alone, as weight varies a lot within breeds. If your dog is between two sizes, it's usually better to size up slightly so they have room to settle rather than feeling boxed in.

They solve different problems. A hammock protects your seats and stops your dog falling into the footwell, but it doesn't usually restrain them on its own. A car seat clips into the seatbelt and keeps your dog in one place. Some owners use both together — a hammock for the seat protection and a harness clip for the restraint.

Most of our seats sit directly on the back seat and secure using your car's existing seatbelt threaded through the base straps, so no tools or fixings are needed. Once it's pulled tight and doesn't slide, clip your dog's harness to the internal safety tether. It typically takes a couple of minutes once you've done it the first time.

There's no single law naming "seatbelts for dogs" specifically, but the Highway Code requires dogs to be suitably restrained in a moving vehicle. A harness that clips to the seatbelt, a car seat with a built-in tether, or a secured crate all satisfy this. Leaving your dog completely loose in the car is what the law is aimed at preventing.

Our car seats are designed for standard car seatbelts, so they're not suitable for motorbikes. In a van, they'll work fine as long as the rear or front seats have a proper three-point seatbelt to thread the straps through — flat cargo areas without seatbelt points aren't a suitable fit.

Yes, our smaller seats work well for cats, particularly nervous travellers who feel safer raised up and able to see out. Just check the weight and size guide first, and keep in mind most cats settle better with the sides zipped up rather than left open, unlike most dogs.

For most healthy adult dogs, a few hours is perfectly fine, but it's worth stopping every couple of hours on longer trips so they can stretch, drink water and go to the toilet, the same as you would with a young child. Puppies and older dogs generally need shorter stretches and more frequent breaks.

Most covers unzip from the frame and can go straight into the washing machine on a cool, gentle cycle. Give the base a quick wipe with a damp cloth first to remove any loose mud or fur, and let the cover air dry fully before zipping it back on to avoid any musty smell.

Nervous dogs often do better in a seat with raised, padded sides, which feels more like a den than an open platform. Being able to see out of the window also helps some dogs settle, while others prefer a bit more enclosure. It's worth pairing the seat with a blanket or item that smells familiar for the first few trips.

Start with short trips of five to ten minutes so your puppy associates the car with something other than the vet. Let them explore the parked car and the seat first without the engine running, then build up gradually. Keeping the same seat for every journey helps them settle faster, since it starts to feel familiar rather than new each time.
